We Have Walls

Week 20:I can't believe it has been 20 weeks into the build already. In four weeks, it will be the 6th month of the build. That is roughly what it should take to build the house. We have had delays due to the weather mostly and we will still be close to that date. This week brought the drywall phase. All the drywall is up and the second and third coats of joint compound will be added this upcoming week. The 4 man crew worked hard to get all of the walls up in about 3 days. I wish I could have seen them do their work. The individual panels are 4' x 12' and are pretty darn heavy. The walls are glued and screwed to the studs so if they ever need to come down, it will be tough to do. It is pretty exciting to see the walls up. It gives you a real spatial sense and allows you to get a true idea of what it will look like. John continued his electrical work pulling the wires and hooking them up to the panel. I was able to get a shot of the electrical panel opened. The main panel has only 4 circuits left so it will be onto the pony panel for the rest of the circuits. Anne is still working on the lighting, doors, stairs, paint, and tile. We had Steve come out on Saturday to measure for the tile, so we will be ordering that in a few days. The fireplace installers came out and finished the install of the fireplace blower and hooked up the electrical. This upcoming week the drywall crew will continue and the furnace should be installed later in the week.

The guest room.

Guest bathroom shower. The green board is moisture resistant and the Permabase is the concrete board used for tiling.

Here is where we will have a counter that wraps around the corner in the family room. There will be cabinets and will be a good place to study.

The stairs up to the second floor.

Here is the upstairs common area. It is a real art to get all the cuts around all the lights, fans, and ducts so precisely.

Kids bathroom tub and shower.

More of the common area upstairs. They sure had several piles of the cut drywall. It was all gone and cleaned up by Friday.

Here is the entrance to the guest room and guest bathroom.

Walls going downstairs to the basement.

A shot into the fireplace room.

A before shot of the stairs to the master bedroom.

This is the part of the kitchen.

Mudroom closet only half finished.

Here is the soffit that is above the island in the kitchen.

Going up the stairs to the common room.

Kitchen. This is where the refrigerator and cabinets will go.

This is the recessed soffit in the foyer. It will have a LED ribbon light inside.

Up close look at the soffit in the foyer. The first coat of mud has been applied.

Here is the soffit above the dinning room table. It has the metal corner beads on it as well.

Here is the stairs up to the master suite with walls.

Closer look at the metal corners at the top of the steps.

This is a shot of the girls rooms and the linen closet.

The skylight with moisture resistant drywall.

This is a little niche next to the stairs up to the master suite. It was a couple of shelves but we had to add another stair so we will need a handrail so it had to be hooked up to the wall on that side.

The master suite.

The master vaulted ceiling.

Here is the master bathroom shower and bath.

Here is the master bath double sinks, which are hooked up into the wall.

Stairs leading up to the kitchen

Fireplace all hooked up.

Here is the joint compound that shows how the soffit is smoothed and almost finished.

The dining room soffit with joint compound.

The lights over the island.

Joint compound around the fireplace. there is cement board around it that is non flammable. That is why there is such a large patch of compound around it.

Stairs to kitchen.

Here again is the study niche.

The kitchen with joint compound.

The upstairs common room.

The foyer looking out the front door.

The stairs going down to the main level.

Master suite ceilings.

A shot of the girls rooms and bathroom entrance.

Here is the main panel opened so you can see the circuits being installed.

I literally have 195 pictures from this week and they all start looking the same. It is hard to get a clear idea of the entire wall due to their size, but suffice it to say, they are looking better with each coat of compound.
